Simple Beef Stew

December 31, 2007

Last night, I went to the Artesia, California branch of Lee’s Sandwiches to take pictures of the place. Since I am a regular customer of their vietnamese sandwiches and a great fan of their pocket-friendly prices, I wanted it to be my first post for my restaurant picks. But what can I say? I came for the pictures and left with four 10-in sandwiches and two 2-ft long baguettes instead. I am just not one to resist the aroma of freshly-baked bread! And what goes best with freshly-baked baguette but a steaming, hearty bowl of beef stew? That’s exactly what I had for lunch today~beef stew and bread. Read more

Sinigang Big Head Carp (Carp Fish in Tamarind Broth)

December 26, 2007

This was my first culinary encounter with this asian variety of carp and I must admit it was a very pleasant experience. I found the fish very meaty and tasty, and with its firm texture, I am sure it will be as remarkable in fried, teriyaki, and sweet and sour dishes. And at a friendly price of $1.99 a pound versus $4.00 and up for salmon or halibut steaks, this ‘big-headed” fish is turning out to be my hands down favorite! Read more

Sugared Curried Pecans

December 25, 2007

One of the goals I set for myself when my site turned one month old in November was to take better pictures. As we all know, our gastronomic journey starts with our senses. Sadly, in some of my pictures, one can’t even tell if it is chicken or pork! Just take a look at my photo for a roasted onion chicken. Looks more like a football ball than a dinner dish! Read more

Pasta Carbonara a la Pobre

December 25, 2007

Pasta Carbonora a la Pobre. More like Pasta Carbonara a la Benny!

My bestfriend, Benny, with me enviously taking note, has been steadfastly losing weight these past three months~31 pounds to be exact. She has made a couple of visits to my house, eyeing and begging for some of the can’t-admit-but-are-now-a-tiny-bit-too-small pants and blouses I have in my closet, which I have yet to lose hope of being able to wear again. I ain’t giving up, my friend! Shop somewhere else! Read more
