Pork Embutido (Filipino-Style Meatloaf)
February 11, 2008
If my mother has her pinakbet (sauteed native vegetables in shrimp paste), I, on the other hand, have pork embutido as the very first recipe I mastered. Over the years, I have tweaked this recipe so many times~from adding liver spread to mixing in cheese~until I arrived to this version that is now a frequent request by my family and friends. February 10, 2008
Here is an alternative lumpiang shanghai recipe for Lent. It is a good way to enjoy filipino eggrolls if you are one who is refraining from the customary ingredient of either ground pork, beef or chicken. The process is laborious and time consuming, but the end result is well worth the extra effort! Read more

Ginisang Upo at Hipon (Sauteed White Squash with Shrimp)
February 5, 2008
I wonder how marriages manage to work. I mean, women are from Venus and men are, well, just plain Martians. Last week, my husband casually mentioned “my pants are getting a little too small at the waist”, and so I went to the mall and bought him a couple of pairs. Around Christmas, I consistently told him “I want a DSLR camera as a gift”, and so he went to the mall and bought me a watch. Obviously, women are built to tune in to others and men are made to, hmmm, scratch themselves? And yet, after all these years, this man can make my world spin just by entering the room. Yep, that’s how marriages work. Read more

Brrrrr, sip, brrrr, sip~that’s me, at the dinner table, as I enjoyed the comforting warmth of this chicken soup. Chicken Teriyaki
February 4, 2008
Occasionally, my daughter and I pretend that we eat healthy. Once or twice a week, we skip McDonald’s Big Mac and head to Yoshinoya for their lean chicken bowls. Very good, if only we stop supersizing the bowls and resist ordering a side of cheesecake! Read more

2008 Recipe Challenge Round-Up
February 1, 2008
I was sitting at our dining table, lazily flipping an old issue of Better Homes and Gardens, when my daughter, Liane, noticed me and remarked, “Ma, isn’t your round up due today?”. It was around 10 PM and, normally, around this time, I would be in front of the computer, either just contentedly gazing at my blog pictures or actively hopping around from one favorite food site to another. I planned my first food blog event with the same gusto as when I attack a quart of Cold Stone Creamery’s Chocolate Devotion~either eat the whole tub or have none at all. I suppose you can call me an overly optimistic individual: always starry-eyed, always hoping for the best. After I submitted my event to Andrew of Spittoon Extra, I was checking my Yahoo mail daily~very Read more
