Happy Birthday, The CookMobile!

Today, my blog is officially one-month old! I thought of baking a cake in celebration (hehehe) but decided on just downloading this from google and write a reflection/realization post instead.

These are some of the things I realized: It is when you set out to teach is when you realize you have so much to learn. I started this blog thinking I am doing the world wide web a favor. I had illusions (delusions?) of grandeur-I’ll create the most impressive cooking site, visitors will flock to my site in droves. Then I got on the internet wagon and I awaken to the fact that all my ideas have been done first and have been done better by others. Check out this site, The Pioneer Woman Cooks! It’s like I am taking baby steps behind the leaps and bounds of this brilliant writer! And one month after, I still average 20-40 page views a day! So much for my anticipated 1,000,000+ unique hits a month!

Blogging is the most effective medium for one to be heard, for one to have a voice. It is a door to someone’s home, a window to someone’s life. Photo of a dog, generations-old recipes, opinions on Bush, memories of a trip…all these shared. What other route is there that will allow one to “go around the globe” for a measly $9.95 a month? What other industry is there that will enable a 16-year old to turn $8 to a $70,000 monthly income?

I have more determination and self-control than I give myself credit for. I haven’t gained one single pound since I started cooking up a storm. Hooray! How was able to limit myself to just one ultra moist starbucks chocolate cupcake with cream cheese frosting?

My blog site is a work in progress. My blog site will always be a work in progress. In fact, my blog site will be a work in progress throughout its entire blog life. A thirst for knowledge, and reading, and learning, should be sustained in order to maintain a content-dense blog site. I am proud of how The CookMobile has moved forward in its first month. It took me ten calls to my web host before I learned how to upload files and a good three weeks before I finally found the perfect theme! And I still have a long way to go. I need to take better pictures. I need to get on forums. I need to submit to directories. I need to spice up my recipe selection. Yet, I am pleased. I am pleased with the simplicity of the design. I am pleased with my candid stories. I am pleased that I have 35 posts! In due time, I will no longer have a blank, confounded, lost look on my face when somebody mentions HTML and tags and SEO and CSS and RSS! What a journey this is turning out to be!
