Please Don’t Bounce Away!
The month is fast ending and as our company’s policy, instead of the customary individual reviews on employment anniversaries, requires that all employees’ evaluations be done all at the same time in May and the corresponding merit increases be processed in June, I was approached last week by one of my cooks regarding his evaluation. I responded, “It’s done. I’ll discuss it with you tomorrow and I’ll submit it right away so your increase will be reflected hopefully by the next pay period.” He said, “Oh, cool. A raise is nice but what I really want to know is what you think about my work.” I suppose, for us bloggers, Google Analytics is our “performance evaluation”. Our statistics reports, the comments on our pages, and our subscriptions are our ways of knowing “what users think about our work”. Isn’t it then understandable that when I checked my site’s analytics report last night and saw one hit from Indiana visit 87 pages and spend 10 minutes on the site, I was pretty giddy with elation? That was some affection, whoever you are. I hope my ramblings did not bore you silly and my recipes helped you fix at least one good meal. Thanks.
This Indiana visit, though, made me ponder: what made the site hospitable enough for this visitor? How can I make The CookMobile more user-friendly? How can I convince my leapers to stay a little bit longer? Are my older posts within reach? So, for June, I have set a goal to revisit every post. I will try to improve old photos (retake most of them), to enlarge my thumbnails, and to deeplink into my archive. Here are some I’ve revised so far: spaghetti pizza, hawaiian-style spareribs, and chicken crescents. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check out my new thumbnails. What do you think?
When the site opened in October 2007, it was averaging a lowly and lonely average of 10 uniques a day but after Josh’s customization of the site and installation of a SEO plug-in in December, it is happily experiencing a small, but steady, increase in organic love from the search engines. Through the food blog events I have participated in, I am now also getting a light stream of referrals from other blog sites. Since my traffic is mostly new visits, I want to utilize this post, via a number of my favorite recipes and posts, to re-introduce myself and my site. Presently, there are thousands of food sites in the blogosphere and this equates to an almost infinite pool of wonderful recipes and meal ideas. I am just very thankful that you made The CookMobile your internet stop today. I also would like to express how I much enjoy everyone’s comments. Goodness! I need a break from Sammy Spammy’s opinions about the benefits of Viagra!
